JORDAN’S ULTIMATE MARVEL CINEMATIC BINGE

I’ve lived, breathed, and consumed everything Marvel for the last year. Last year, towards the end of October, I turned to my roommate and said, “Make me a list of everything Marvel, including all TV shows and movies in chronological order.” I had been reminiscing about one of my favorite TV shows of all time, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and I wanted to revisit the show. So, I decided why not watch everything in order and include EVERYTHING.
This list was made days later, and on Nov. 4, 2023, my fate was sealed for the next year. The list started with Captain America: The First Avenger in the year 1943 and ended with Logan in 2039. I decided to document my reactions and track my progress on Twitter, and thus, “JORDAN’S ULTIMATE MARVEL CINEMATIC BINGE” began. The official list is three pages long, including 96 movies and TV shows. (The list went all the way to 96 because my roommate also divided the seasons as they pertained to events happening in the Marvel Cinematic Universe so that I could get the full experience of the timeline.)
There were some tweaks made to the list, moving around some of the X-Men movies, but other than that, the plan was simple. I am going to watch everything Marvel-related in chronological order for who knows how long simply because I wanted to rewatch and finish an old show.
When the trailer for the newest Marvel movie, The Marvels, dropped, I was stressed, to say the least. I was just starting the second page of my list. It was April, and this movie was supposed to come out in early July. It had taken me five months to watch up to title 40, and I still have over 20 shows and movies to watch, shows with multiple seasons at that. I later discovered that the release date was pushed back to Nov. 11, 2023, because of the WGA strike. I was so relieved I had more time to watch and catch up to make the release date.
Today is Oct. 18, 2023. I am at 61 out of 96 😊. Boy, has it been ROUGH. During the summer, I had an internship, and I did my best to watch what I could and when I could. But boy, did this list become a chore. I wasn’t having fun anymore, and I was starting to avoid watching TV completely, so I didn’t have to watch Marvel-related things anymore. It may have actually started to haunt me in my sleep because I was thinking about this damn list so much.
Maybe a week or two ago, I told myself that while my goal was to be done or nearly done by November, I needed to give myself some grace. All the responses I got when first posting about my watchlist were that I was crazy and people questioning why I would subject myself to such madness; I told them it was because I wanted to. I did this so I could know all the ins and outs of the MCU, and the resentment was starting to form. So, to avoid further resentment from growing, I told myself that while I missed my deadline, it’s not dependent on me seeing The Marvels or even finishing the list. I had to remember that I started this for fun and to learn about the expansive world of Marvel. This was supposed to be a fun little project of some sort for myself, and I was letting it get to my head.
I’m still watching, and while the show I started this madness for is nowhere up next in the queue, I’m looking forward to seeing how everything fits together when the movies and shows are first released. While documenting my watch journey on Twitter and live tweeting my reactions, my roommate also tasked me with the task of rating my favorite movies and shows as I watched. (I was so upset when she informed me I had to rank all the different Spider-Man movies as well. I love them all so much; how could any of them be first or last? I later learned that Spider-Man: Homecoming was my least favorite so far lol.)
